Portimao WSBK Race weekend 2022

————————–

🇬🇧 Our last European race took place last weekend. We were on the „Rollercoaster“ in Portimao. I’ve been able to gain very good experience there in recent years and have always had a lot of fun on this race track.

Free practice: The free practice got off to a great start, I was able to set a very good lap time right away from the second lap onwards and had a lot of good feeling for the bike. All year I’ve had a really hard time getting a good feeling in FP1, even at Assen where I ended up finishing 8th in the race. We finished 14th, just 0.7 seconds behind the world champion. We had a small problem with the clutch which gave me a bang on the gearbox in first gear. In FP2 we tried to fix this directly, unfortunately we didn’t succeed as desired, but I was still able to confirm my laptime again. 🙌🏼

Qualifying: In qualifying we again made a mechanical change for our strange problem which neither the team nor I ever had in the past. The problems didn’t get any better, and any electronic help hadn’t helped either. Nevertheless, we were able to qualify on P18 and I gave everything I could.

Race 1: My start was very good. I was able to make up 3 positions straight away and got off to a great first lap. At the end of the first lap I made a mistake on the brakes which put me in an extreme stoppie and I had to go off the track into the gravel and onto the airfence. I restarted the bike and tried to go as fast as possible. We had installed a new clutch setting which should solve our problem. So I tried to collect as much data as possible, even though it was clear to me that the time I lost could no longer be made up. I finished the race on P26.

Warmup: We were confident that we had found the problem, which was still very strange. Unfortunately, due to a technical defect, I wasn’t able to do a single lap in the session and I couldn’t confirm whether the problem was completely solved.

Race 2: For the race we had specially prepared a second electronic mapping which should help to avoid the problems and not to use the first gear if the worst came to the worst. We also changed the gear ratio which should help so that second gear is enough in the hairpins. My start into the race was ok, unfortunately I lost so much time in 6th gear in the limiter that at the end of the straight it was easy to overtake me out of the slipstream. Our problem was finally solved, but I lost too much on the straight and was able to fight my way up to 18th place on the last lap.

The weekend started very well, the team was constantly working on the problem and tried everything to solve it. Every session was started with great motivation. I’m really looking forward to Argentina, which will be the first overseas race. Thank you everyone for your support 

I will keep you up to date! 😊💪🏼

See you soon! 😊
