🇩🇪 Am vergangenen Wochenende fand der dritte Lauf der IDM Superbike Meisterschaft satt. Es war ein sehr erfolgreicher Ausflug ins Tschechische Most. Eine Woche zuvor hatte ich noch die Möglichkeit den Weg nach Most zu machen um einen Tag dort zu testen. Dies hat mir extrem geholfen, denn mit dem Superbike fühlt sich jede Strecke extrem anders an und ich habe viel zu lernen. Dies war die perfekte Reaktion, auf das vorherige IDM Wochenende in Oschersleben, wo ich viele Schwierigkeiten zu beginn des Wochenendes hatte.

Am Freitag fanden die freien Trainings statt, bereits im FP1 fühlte ich mich sehr wohl und belegte direkt den zweiten Platz mit nur einem minimalen Rückstand. Im FP2 hatten wir in den ersten Minuten einen Sensor Fehler, der mich viel Zeit gekostet hat, das Team hat extrem sauber und schnell gearbeitet, damit ich trotzdem am Training teilnehmen konnte. Am Ende belegte ich den fünften Platz mit dem harten Reifen, einer erneuten Zeitsteigerung und deutlich reduzierten Runden. Das dritte freie Training fand unter Mischbedingungen statt und wir entschieden uns, wie auch 90% der anderen Fahrer kein Risiko zu gehen, denn die Wettervorhersage war definitiv sonnig und sehr warm. 👍🏼

In den Qualifikationen am Samstag konnte ich mich erneut extrem steigern. Für mich ist es immer noch extrem schwierig eine extrem schnelle Runde für das Quali zu fahren. Deshalb war ich mit P5, wie auch am Sachsenring sehr zufrieden. Ich wusste, dass die Zeit vom Quali für mich definitiv im Rennen auch möglich war und dies für ein Podium die Tür öffnen würde. 💪🏼

Rennen 1: Mein Start war sehr gut und ich bog als dritter in die erste Kurve ein. Direkt in der zweiten Runde konnte ich an Soomer vorbeigehen und ging direkt mit meinem Quali Tempo, wie bereits vermutet, mit der Gruppe mit. Hinter Florian Alt war es verhältnismäßig einfach den Reifen zu kontrollieren und die Runden abzuspulen. Speziell im letzten Sektor war ich einen Tick schneller und plante bereits dort meinen ersten und potentiellen Angriff. Die Kampfgruppe bestand zu dem Zeitpunkt aus 7 Fahrern. In der 5. Runde passierte mir Ende Start Ziel im Windschatten von Florian Alt ein kleiner Fehler der mich auf den vierten Platz zurückfallen lies. Ich hatte bis zum Ende den Anschluss an die Podiumsgruppe aber verpasste Soomer knapp in der letzen Runde um P3. Am Ende war es P4 mit der zweit schnellsten Rennrunde. 🙏🏼

Rennen 2: Durch das „Reversed Grid“ hatte ich erneut wie auch am Sachsenring die Pole Position. Mein Start war nicht perfekt aber gut genug um als zweiter neben meinen Teamkollegen Toni in die erste Kurve einzubiegen. Als aber ein Fahrer deutlich auf der Innenseite seinen Bremspunkt verpasste, wurde Toni zu Sturz gebracht, Ilya Mikhalchic und ich extrem nach außen gedrückt. Ich verlor extrem viele Plätze und ging mit Ilya auf Aufholjagd. Von Platz 9 konnte ich mich Runde für Runde weiter auf Platz 5 vorkämpfen. Ich schaffte es im Tau von Ilya an die Podiumsgruppe aufzuschließen und war bereit für die erste Attacke. Mit drei Runden zu fahren passierte etwas, was mir überhaupt nicht in meinen Plan gepasst hat als ich um das Podium angreifen wollte. Der Nockenwellen Sensor ging kaputt und das Motorrad ging ins „Notprogramm“. Es gab nur noch 9.000 Umdrehungen frei und ich versuchte irgendwie das Rennen zu beenden. Hinter mir war eine deutlich gewachsene Lücke entstanden, jedoch war es fast unmöglich noch schnell zu fahren. Extrem quergestellt und gekämpft, gebissen und nicht aufgegeben, mit 3 Überholmanövern die ich abblocken konnte. Mit nur 9.000RPM konnte ich irgendwie den 5. Platz ins Ziel retten. 🙌🏼

Für mich war es ein erfolgreiches Wochenende, bei dem ich zweimal die Pace fürs Podium hatte, die zweitschnellste Rennrunde und ein super Gefühl hatte. Das Team hat super gearbeitet, das Bike war super und ich bin mir sicher, dass wir durch unser permanentes Punkten in der Meisterschaft noch sehr belohnt werden. Bis P2 sind es aktuell nur 6 Punkte Rückstand und ich bin immer noch die beste BMW. In jedem Rennen dieser Saison konnten wir uns bis jetzt  in der Top 5 platzieren.

Schleiz steht als nächstes an, dort war ich schon zwei Jahre nicht mehr, da es eine Naturrennstrecke ist, kann man dort nicht testen. 🇬🇧 The third round of the IDM Superbike Championship took place last weekend. It was a very successful trip to Czech Most. A week earlier I had the opportunity to go to Most to test there for a day. This helped me enormously because with the Superbike every track feels extremely different and I have still a lot to learn. This was the perfect reaction to the previous IDM weekend in Oschersleben, where I had a lot of difficulties at the beginning of the weekend.

The free practice sessions took place on Friday, I already felt very comfortable in FP1 and took second place with only a small gap. In FP2 we had a sensor error in the first few minutes, which cost me a lot of time, the team worked extremely cleanly and quickly so that I could still take part in practice. In the end I finished fifth with the hard tires, another increase in time and significantly reduced laps. The third free practice took place in mixed conditions and we decided, like 90% of the other riders, not to take any risks because the weather forecast was definitely sunny and very warm. 👍🏼

In the qualifications on Saturday, I was again able to improve a lot. It’s still very difficult for me to set an extremely fast lap for qualifying. That’s why I was very happy with P5, just like at the Sachsenring. I knew that the qualifying time was definitely possible for me in the race as well and that would open the door for a podium. 💪🏼

Race 1: My start was very good and I entered the first corner in third place. In the second lap I was able to pass Soomer and, as already suspected, went with the group with my qualifying speed. Behind Florian Alt it was relatively easy to control the tires and complete the laps. Especially in the last sector I was a bit faster and was already planning my first and potential attack there. The group consisted of 7 riders at the time. In the 5th lap I made a small mistake at the end of start/finish in the slipstream of Florian Alt, which made me drop back to fourth place. I kept up with the podium group until the end but just missed Soomer on the final lap for P3. In the end it was P4 with the second fastest race lap. 🙏🏼

Race 2: Thanks to the „Reversed Grid“ I was on pole position again, just like at the Sachsenring. My start wasn’t perfect but good enough to be second next to my teammate Toni into the first corner. But when a rider clearly missed his braking point on the inside, Toni was brought down and crashed, Ilya Mikhalchic and I were pushed extremely outwards. I lost an extremely large number of positions and went on a catch-up hunt with Ilya. From 9th place, I was able to fight my way up to 5th place, lap by lap. I managed to catch up with the podium group in Ilya’s slipstream and was ready for the first attack. Riding with three laps to go something happened that didn’t fit into my plan at all when I wanted to attack for the podium. The camshaft sensor broke and the motorcycle went into the „emergency program“. There was only 9,000 revs left and I was trying to finish the race somehow. A gap had grown significantly behind me, but it was almost impossible to drive fast. Extremely crossed and fought, bitten and not given up, with 3 overtaking maneuvers that I was able to block. With only 9,000RPM I was somehow able to save 5th place to the finish. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

For me it was a successful weekend where I had the pace for the podium twice, the second fastest race lap and a great feeling. The team did a great job, the bike was great and I’m sure that we’ll be very rewarded with our permanent points in the championship. P2 is currently only 6 points behind and I’m still the best BMW. In every race this season we have placed in the top 5 so far.
